Summary
While most heroes will prefer possessing a Quirk that enhances their physical strength, allowing them to obliterate villains with hard-hitting punches and kicks after closing the distance, not everyone enjoys getting so up close and personal. Thankfully, there have been several Quirks introduced inMy Hero Academiathat are more designed to be used at a safe distance, giving the user some breathing room while they line up their shots from afar to deal damage without putting themselves at risk.
Heroes who play more of a supporting role can make great use of a long-ranged Quirk ability, but for the villains, it means they can spread chaos and suffering without needing to worry about being interrupted, unless the hero is fast enough to reach them in time. In terms of overall reliability and strength, though, this is how the ranged Quirk abilities inMy Hero Academiastack up to one another.
8Navel Laser
Navel Laser Suits Aoyama, Who Is A Rather Timid Hero Who Gets Easily Scared
Aoyama struggles a lot to get to grips with his Quirk in the early arcs, but he does eventually start to make good use of it after putting in the training, despite how awkward it is to aim. Naval Laser, as the name implies, allows Aoyama to shoot out a massive beam from his stomach belt, and though it can deal a ton of damage, keeping it accurate is much easier said than done.
After Aoyama is revealed as the traitor who had acquired his Quirk from All For One, he puts in a lot of work to master his ability so that he can make up for his mistakes in the final war. This is when he finally reaches hisQuirk Awakening, making his Naval Laser much faster and absurdly powerful. It just goes to show that any Quirk, no matter how weak it may seem at first, can be made to be useful with enough practice and hard work.
7Homing
Snipe Can Easily Stop A Villain In Their Tracks By Homing Onto Them And Firing Off A Projectile
Anyone within 600 meters of the Pro-Hero Snipe has a chance of being targeted by his Quirk ability, Homing. After a target is marked, Snipe can throw out a projectile, which will then be directed towards the enemy at lightning speed. However, as Snipe himself admits, this won’t increase the damage to whatever he decides to throw, making it more useful for tripping villains up and confusing them rather than taking someone out for good.
That being said, the range of this ability is quite staggering, and since so many of his fellowPro-Heroesalready have physical-based Quirk abilities, it makes him an invaluable member of the team who works best at providing covering fire from range to help his allies out in combat.
6Creation
Momo Isn’t Shy About Whipping Out A Railgun Or Catapult To Damage Villains From Afar
Momo is able to pull pretty much anything she can think of from thin air thanks to her Creation Quirk, though because it requires a certain amount of bodily lipoids for the materialization to work,it takes a big toll on her bodyin the short term. As a result, she needs to think carefully about what to conjure up depending on the scenario, and if it’s a long-range firefight, her go-to options are usually railguns and catapults.
This isn’t to suggest that Momo isn’t still more than capable of holding her own in hand-to-hand combat, just that she can also choose to excel at inflicting damage from long range if there are already enough heroes on the battlefield to get the job done.
5Voice
Present Mic Is Able To Disrupt Groups Of Villains From A Safe Distance With His Voice Quirk
Though he only gets to show it off on a few occasions throughout the story, Present Mic’s Voice Quirk seems to be an incrediblyuseful support tool, primarily because of its staggering distance and AOE range. By amplifying the volume of his voice and manipulating sound waves, Mic is able to distract or even immobilize villains by screaming at the top of his lungs, meaning he doesn’t even need to get physically involved in a fight to help out his teammates.
As Jirou and Koda found out first-hand, Mic’s sound waves can be deafening when adjusted to the right pitch, making it hard to even think of a way to counteract him when there’s so much noise blasting through the air. Mic has clearly honed his Quirk to ensure it can reach as far as possible so that he can trap anyone who decides to try and escape him and the other heroes.
4Blade-Tooth
Moonfish Enjoys Nothing More Than Skewering Groups Of Heroes With His Razor-Sharp Teeth
Blade-Tooth is undoubtedly one of thescariest Quirks in the series, but in terms of raw damage and speed, it’s also one of the best in comparison to many of the other villains. As someone who had previously been on death row before he was broken out of prison by the League of Villains, Moonfish has had plenty of experience killing civilians with his long and spiky teeth, which can extend as far as he wants them to.
This is handy for Moonfish specifically, considering he can usually be seen wearing a straitjacket, making it difficult for him to land any sort of real damage when a hero gets too close. However, all he needs to do is fire himself back up into the sky with his teeth, and he’ll be in the perfect position to eliminate anyone who dares stand up to him.
3Brainwash
Once Shinso Has Crept Into A Person’s Mind, He Can Let Them Do The Heavy Lifting For Him
Shinso’s Quirk, Brainwash, is an ability which harbors a ton of drawbacks, but if he manages to pull it off, it can be incredibly useful for taking down a tough and stubborn villain. The way it works is, Shinso needs to first ask someone a question, and if they answer, they will be completely under his control, allowing him to order his puppet to do his bidding while he sits back and admires the chaos.
Fans were given their first glimpse at Brainwash’s potential back during the School Festival, where it was used on Midoriya, but the best example is when Shinso took control of the giant brute known as Gigantomachia. Though Gigantomachia would eventually be thwarted by All For One, the fact that Shinso was able to control such a beast, and could do it from a safe range, highlights the underlying potential this powerful Quirk truly holds.
2Fierce Wings
If He Finds Himself At A Distance From His Opponent, Hawks Can Unleash A Deadly Barrage Of Feathers
Fierce Wings can be used in a few different ways. Most of the time, Hawks will decide to use his giant red wings for close-range combat, letting him slip in and out of the fight inthe blink of an eyeto catch his opponents off guard. However, the Quirk also works at range, where Hawks can fire a barrage of sharp and deadly feathers to pierce through anyone who is considered a threat to hero society.
This makes Hawks an incredibly versatile hero, and someone who is more than deserving of being classed as a professional. Though a single feather may not sound like much, the speed at which Hawks can fire them, paired with his pinpoint accuracy, makes him a true force to be reckoned with from mid to long range.
1Rifle
The Former Hero Excels At Taking Aim And Picking Off Enemies From Afar
Lady Nagant’s Rifle Quirk makes it so that she can summon a long-ranged rifle from her arm any time she pleases. Initially, she was a hero who was forced to get her hands dirty for the sake of the Public Safety Commission, which involved her killing numerous villains in cold blood. After abandoning her post, she joined up withAll For One, inevitably leading her to Midoriya.
This fight is where Nagant gets to demonstrate just how strong her Quirk truly is. Each of Nagant’s bullets is laser accurate, and as Midoriya comments, they are even able to curve around buildings to find their prey. Simply put, the only reason Midoriya was able to escape her shots was because he possessed multiple high-speed Quirks, but the average hero or villain wouldn’t stand a chance against Nagant’s long-ranged ability.
My Hero Academia
Cast
In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
