Summary
Virtuos Games’Oblivion Remasteredhas reminded fans of what they loved about Bethesda’s classic RPG, while introducing a new generation of gamers to Cyrodil and the plains of Oblivion. The game has never looked better, thanks to the remaster’s Unreal Engine 5 overhaul, and the original gameplay remains intact, with a few minor additions.
Players have a lot of freedom when it comes to how they want to fight in Oblivion, whether they want to be apure caster, a ranged rogue, or a hardy warrior. Melee players have a choice between Blunt and Blade weapons (or both) when picking major skills. Maces are part of the Blunt weapon category, and they’re one-handed weapons governed by the Strength stat.
There are plenty of strong maces inOblivion Remastered, including some pretty effective, unique enchanted weapons. For players looking to bash their foes into submission with the freedom to use a shield in their off-hand, these are the best maces inOblivion Remastered, ranked.
8Dark Mace
Seducer’s Mace
Out of the basic mace types in Oblivion Remastered, the Dark Mace is one of the best. This mace has decent base damage and can be looted from the Dark Seducer Guards in the Dementia area of the Shivering Isles. That means they can technically be accessed a lot earlier than other higher-level maces, though players will have tofind their way past the Gatekeeperand into Dementia first.
7Deadric Mace
Demonic Mace
From level 20 and above, players can start to find the best tier of basic mace inOblivion Remastered, the Deadric Mace. Finding one of these weapons and enchanting it with astrong damage enchantmentcan rival the power of some of the unique enchanted maces. Players might even get lucky and find an enchanted Deadric Mace as loot at higher levels.
6Mace Of Molag Bal
Deadric Artifact
The Mace of Molag Bal is a Deadric Artifact, and a decent weapon choice if players pick it up at level 17, when they can first access Molag Bal’s Deadric Shrine quest. The enchantment can absorb both Strength and Magika from opponents when hit, so this mace can work forpaladin-adjacent playerswho want to cast healing or protective magic while bashing away at foes.
5Calliben’s Grim Retort
Strength Siphon
Calliben’s Grim Retortis a unique Elven mace, and an excellent weapon to pick up early for Blunt-focused players. That’s because its enchantment and base damage will be the same no matter when it’s picked up, making it one ofthe best early upgradesa player can get, if they know where to look. The mace is hidden in the Trentius Family Mausoleum, which can only be accessed during the quest Unfriendly Competition. The mace is hidden on one of the tombs in the Mausoleum, but players will be attacked when they enter the crypt, so it’s not as easy as just walking in and grabbing it.
4Rockshatter
Family Heirloom
Rockshatteris a unique mace with a powerful enchantment if it’s picked up at higher levels. The mace is also a quest item, so it doesn’t weigh anything, but players will have to leave the quest uncompleted if they want to keep the mace. Players can find Rockshatter as part of the quest When the Vow Breaks, obtained by speaking to Maeva the Buxom at her farm just north of Anvil. She tasks the Hero with retrieving the mace, but players can choose to keep the mace themselves and leave the quest open if they want a nice, weightless, backupweapon with a strong enchantment.
3Perfect Amber Mace
Dumag Gro-Bonk’s Finest
If players craft an Amber Mace at maximum level and use a mace matrix when doing so, this will be one of the strongest maces players can find inOblivion Remastered. It’s a task that requires a few steps, though, meaning some players might just opt for one of the strong, unique maces that’s easier to obtain. To craft an amber mace, players first need to find Dumag Gro-Bonk at The Missing Pauldron in Crucible on the Shivering Isles. He can craft the mace, but players will need Amber Ore, from around the Isles, and a mace matrix. Both items can be found in the Shivering Isles, but that won’t necessarily be easy.
2Mace Of The Crusader
Mace Of The Pure
The Knights of the Nine quest inOblivion Remasteredis a lengthy quest chain with some valuable enchanted relics as rewards. One of these relics is the Mace of the Crusader, and it’s well worth going through the quest to obtain this weapon for Blunt skill users, even if they don’t want the associated enchanted armor set. To start this quest chain off, players have to speak to the prophet outside Anvil chapel. The full quest chain doesn’t have to be completed to get the mace, but players have to go as far as unlocking the priory of the nine to get the Path of the Righteous quest to obtain the mace.
1Hatred’s Heart
Mace Of The Damned
If it’s obtained at high level, then Hatred’s Heart is one of the best maces inOblivion Remastered. Unlike the other best-in-class option, the Mace of the Crusader, players don’t have to worry about losing access to it if they raise their infamy, either. Hatred’s Heart can be found in a side tower through one of the Oblivion gates. The Chorrol gate will always take players to the right location, but it’s possible to get there at random from one of thenon-story Oblivion gatesas well, meaning the mace can potentially be obtained multiple times. The fire damage enchantment on Hatred’s Heart is one of the strongest enchantments players can get on a mace, at its highest level (level 19+).
