The Game Before The Gate is a weekly boss inGenshin Impact. As with any other weekly boss battle, players have to spend 60 Resin to claim the rewards, 30 Resin if they were among the first three weekly bosses defeated.
DefeatingThe Game Before The Gaterewards players with materials such as Ascended Sample: Knight, Ascended Sample: Rook, and Ascended Sample: Queen. Of course, these are the main rewards in addition to the other common items thatevery other weekly bosshas on their reward lists.
How To Beat The Game Before The Gate In Genshin Impact
The Game Before The Gate boss fight consists of two phases, with some tricky mechanics in both phases. It’s important to bring Cryo and Hydro characters, as some parts need theFreeze reaction inGenshin Impact.
Here are some of the best Cryo and Hydro units players can bring to this boss fight:
Phase 1
During the first phase of this boss fight, the King Piece will continuously summon random chess pieces to attack the active character. At one point during combat, the King Piece will stop taking damage and summon three pawns across the chessboard. Then it will start charging towards the active character on a steady path.Stand behind one of the three pawns so they can intercept the charging King Piece. The King will hit them and explode,losing a third of their shield’s value. Do this again with the other pawns, and the King Piece will take some heavy DMG and be stunned for a couple of seconds.
The King Piece might also summon an Electro shield to protect itself. Players shouldkeep dealing Cryo DMGto the shield while avoiding its AoE Electro attacks. Eventually, the shield will be destroyed, and the King Piece will also take high DMG and be stunned for a while. These two shield breaks should give enough windows to beat the King Piece inGenshin Impact.
When the King Piece reaches critical HP levels, it will be protected by the Queen Piece, andplayers must defeat her first before finishing the King. The Queen Piece has three normal attacks with no tricky mechanics. So, players should not face any hardship taking it down. After beating both the King and Queen Pieces, players will enter the boss’s second phase.
Phase 2
During phase two of The Game Before The Gate weekly boss battle, players will fight both the Ascended King and Sublimated Queen together. The Ascended King is more of a close-combat opponent who will keep pressuring the active character and follow them around, while the Sublimated Queen is more of a range character who occasionally approaches the active character to deal AoE DMG.
If players didn’t defeat them fast enough, one of the two bosses would move to the middle of the arena to charge for their Lethal Blow. Here’s where having a Freeze team matters, asplayers need to approach the charging boss and start triggering Freeze reactionsto intercept their charging. If not, the Lethal Blow would one-shot the active character no matter what was going on, even if the character is in the middle of casting theirElemental Burst inGenshin Impact.
Bosses can’t be Frozen, but what matters is combining Cryo and Hydro together until theFrozentext appears.
Other than the Lethal Blow, both the Ascended King and the Sublimated Queen don’t have any dangerous moves. However, players should drain both bosses’ HP equally and eventually defeat them. If not,they’ll keep reviving each other, and the fight will drag on for a while.
