Speaking more about his vision for the movie, Zach Cregger stated in an interview with Deadline that he’s “a rabid fan” of the franchise, and his remarks likely bode well for fans who are hoping for a moreauthentic-feelingResident Evilfilm.
Speculation suggests that his take onREwill mirror the games more closely, potentially exploring the Spencer Mansion and the plot of the first entry, though this has not been officially confirmed. Regardless, withResident Evil 9highly anticipated and the film seemingly set to stick more closely to the style and tone of the original games, it could begin a new era for the franchise, especially if both are released close together.

As well as 2026 beingResident Evil’s 30th birthday, this move could be the best way to maximize exposure for both and give fans a two-for-one treat in the process. In addition to pleasing those who are looking forward to both, it would offer new or younger audience members the perfect chance to jump into the seminal survival horror series at the same time.
