Summary
American Horror Storyseason 12 premiered in September 2023 and told a grim story about a pregnant actress being manipulated and terrified at every turn. Starring Emma Roberts in the main role and adapted from the novelDelicate Conditionby Danielle Valentine, the two-part season had a clever cliffhangerand some wild twists. It’s been over a year since the season 12 finale aired in April 2024, and I’m one of many fans who are eager to see Ryan Murphy take on more horror tropes.
In January 2020,Deadlinereported thatAmerican Horror Storywas given a three-season renewal, but there hasn’t been any news on the creepy franchise in a while. In October 2024, Murphy toldVarietyhe’s “always working” on the show, which made viewers even more curious. There’sarecent update aboutAmerican Horror Storyseason 13 that fans will want to hear, and while it might be a little disappointing, I remain optimistic about the beloved franchise.
American Horror Story Season 13 Hasn’t Been “Ordered,” According To The Disney Television Studios President
Eric Schrier, the President of Disney Television Studios, recently gave an interview toDeadlineandshared an update onAmerican Horror Storyseason 13. When asked if there would be another season, he said:
“I think yes, as long as Ryan has an idea.”
Schrier explained that Ryan Murphy is “in a select few group of people” and as long as he has an idea, “we’re going to figure it out.” He mentionedthe many shows that Murphy works onand continued:
“We don’t have another incarnation ofAmerican Horror Storyordered, but it’s a franchise that, by design, can always be rebooted. And so when Ryan has an idea that is great and can figure it out with his schedule of all the things that he’s doing, I could very well see us doing another installment.”
While it’s unfortunate to hear thatAmerican Horror Storyseason 13 isn’t officially in the works,I’m hopeful that the show will continue at some point in the future. For one thing, the show is so successful and creative that it seems likely it will return. For another, I think there is so much potential from a storytelling perspective. The next season could be funny, orit could tell a supernatural story, or both.
I’m also optimistic aboutAmerican Horror Storyseason 13 because Murphy said he wants to keep doing the show. He has also made it clear that hewants to cast Sarah Paulson in the next season. It’s also possible to argue there’s been arecent trend of long gaps between TV seasons, which can be seen with the three-year gap betweenWednesdayseason 1 and season 2. Of course,Stranger Thingsis also an example of a show where fans have waited several years to see more episodes. Even ifAHScomes back in a few years, I’ll be ready to watch, and I’m sure many others will be glad, too.
Fans Can Catch Up On American Horror Story Seasons 1-12 On Hulu
American Horror Storyseasons 1 through 12 are available to stream on Hulu, and fans can also watch every episode of the spinoffAmerican Horror Stories, which has a particularly compelling episode called “Bestie.”
The previous seasons ofAHShave covered most of the most classic horror tropes, fromevil spirits to haunted houses to witches, the apocalypse, creepy kids, and final girls. IfAHSseason 13 does happen, it will be cool to see which classic eerie tropes Ryan Murphy picks and which new characters are added to the franchise.
