Summary
Grand Theft Auto 6is without a doubt one of (if not the) most anticipated upcoming games right now. Rockstar Games' long-running action-packed crime series is a titan in the industry, andGrand Theft Auto 6is expected to break records upon launch, even though it’s been over a decade since the most recent entry, 2013’sGTA 5.GTA 5and its online component went on to become the highest-grossing commercial entertainment product of all time, raking in an astounding $8.6 billion, and counting.
Naturally, the hype aroundGTA 6is hard to understate. The latest big news, though, is that Rockstar announced thatGrand Theft Auto 6will be delayedto June 27, 2025. While this perhaps wasn’t a huge surprise given the developer’s history and practices, along with many industry pundits and fans suspecting it would happen, it’s still a pretty big letdown for those hoping it would hit its original Fall 2025 window. The studio has, however, given fans some updates, putting out a new trailer and a website showing off more of its modern Vice City setting and breaking down a few of its starring characters. And one of these listed appears to channel a combination of the looks and habits of two ofGTA 5’s most prominent supporting characters.
Grand Theft Auto 6’s Cal Hampton Seems Like a Cross Between Lester and Jimmy from GTA 5
Lester Crest and Jimmy De Santa in Grand Theft Auto 5
Closely connected to one of the main trio ofGrand Theft Auto 5’s protagonists, Michael De Santa, Lester Crest and Jimmy De Santa are featured heavily in the story. Jimmy, Michael’s 20-year-old son, embodies the stereotypes of a privileged youth, displaying elements of affluenza, with a penchant for indulging in recreational drugs and spending much of his time playing videogames. In true Rockstar fashion, Jimmy represents a caricature of the modern American slacker who thinks too highly of himself, but is also at least partly self-aware of his position, even sporting a neck tattoo reading, “Entitled.” Jimmy finds himself getting into all kinds of trouble inGTA 5that Michael often has to begrudgingly fish him out of.
Lester Crest, also going by his handle “Long John Teabag” or “LJT”, is the literal “guy in the chair” for Michael and the crew he puts together for variousheists inGrand Theft Auto 5. Lester suffers from a debilitating disease that largely confines him to a wheelchair, but he is a technical wizard and expert hacker. He was actually part of Michael’s original crew, although he backed out of the ill-fated Ludendorff bank robbery that saw Michael going into hiding under the assumed identity he has at the start ofGTA 5. Once Michael reunites with Lester in Los Santos, he serves as a scout and technical specialist, providing intel and planning many of the jobs for Michael, Franklin, and Trevor.
Lester is voiced by Jay Klaitz (Jessica Jones) and Jimmy is portrayed by Danny Tamberelli (All That.)
How Grand Theft Auto 6’s Cal Hampton Looks Like a Blend of GTA 5’s Jimmy De Santa and Lester Crest
Revealed on the officialGrand Theft Auto 6website, Cal Hampton is described as:
Jason’s friend who is at the low tide of America and happy there. Cal feels safest hanging at home, snooping on Coast Guard comms with a few beers and some private browser tabs open. Casual paranoia loves company, but his friend Jason has bigger plans.
Based on this, Cal seems to split the difference between Jimmy and Lester, both in physical appearance and personality. Rocking a shirt reading, “Violence is good. Thanks, videogames”, Cal is said to embrace internet conspiracies, but like Lester, also has some true technical prowess. Given everything detailed about Cal Hampton, it can likely be inferred that he will serve a similar role to Lester forJason and Lucia inGrand Theft Auto 6, while displaying major shades of Jimmy’s reckless immaturity.
