After you make your way through the Strange Door inOblivion Remastered, and begin theShivering IslesDLC, you are met with a roadblock that can be incredibly tricky for some players to bypass. The roadblock we are referring to is, of course, theGatekeeperat theGates of Madnees. Once you enter the Shivering Isles, there is not much in the way of guidance. Should you encounter the Gatekeeper on your own, you’ll find that it is completely impervious to your attacks. With this in mind, this guide will show youhow to kill the Gatekeeper inOblivion Remastered, and make your waypast the Gates of Madness.
How to Pass the Gatekeeper in Oblivion Remastered
Visit Passwall:
When youfirst enter the Shivering Isles, you’ll find yourself in a region known asThe Fringe. There isn’t much to be found in this area, but the lives that make this region their home gather in the small village ofPasswall. While many players will likely make their way directly to the Gates of Madness, thinking they can simply pass through, there’s really no reason to go there first. Your first destination should be Passwall.
In Passwall, look forShelden, the self-proclaimedMayor of Passwall. He and a Dark Elf namedFelas Sarandaswill be conversing in the center of town. Speaking to them will reveal the existence of the Gatekeeper, as well as a group of adventurers that are about to try and pass through the Gates of Madness. After you speak with them, both Shelden and Felas will begin making their way towards the Gates of Madness. Follow them.
Watch the “Battle”:
When you get to the Gates of Madness, you’ll find a group of well-armored adventurers getting ready to take on the Gatekeeper. Speaking with Shelden again should trigger the fight. The entire group will be destroyed by the Gatekeeper.
There is a common bug that occurs at the Gates of Madness. If the adventurers refuse to attack the Gatekeeper, and just stand around as it walks in circles, tryWaiting for one hour. This will solve the issue and move the quest ahead.
Once all the adventurers have been killed, speak to Shelden once again. He will reveal thatJayred Ice-Veinsis planning to kill the Gatekeeper.
Gardens of Flesh and Bone:
To find Jayred Ice-Veins, follow the quest marker back to Passwall and look for the run-down building on the edge of the pond. Head inside and speak to Jayred. He will explain that you’ll need to go to theGardens of Flesh and Bone.
Follow Jayred up the hill to the gardens, and use a lockpick to open theVery Easylevel gate. Enter the main courtyard and interact with theGatekeeper Skeleton.
There’s another possible bug that can occur at the Gardens of Flesh and Bone. If Jayred Ice-Veins stands around and does nothing after entering through the gate, Wait for one hour, and the quest should advance.
After interacting with the skeleton, you’ll be attacked by a huge group of Shambles. On their own, they aren’t too bad, but they will attack in a massive group. Make sure you are prepared before interacting. Once all the Shambles are dead, Jayred will use the Gatekeeper Skeleton to make arrows. You’ll have to wait three hours, then return to Jayred at his house to collect the arrows.
Defeat the Gatekeeper:
Now that you have the Gatekeeper Bone Arrows, you can return to the Gatekeeper at the Gates of Madness. If you wait for Jayred to attack with you, the process of killing the Gatekeeper will go much faster.
After he dies, loot his body to get thekeys to both Mania and Dementia.
How to Complete Through the Fringe of Madness – Oblivion Remastered
Once you’ve defeated the Gatekeeper,Haskillwill automatically speak to you. He will inform you that Sheogorath is waiting to speak to you in his palace. You can enter either the Gate of Mania or the Gate of Dementia to reach the palace. Mania is likely the easier path.
Make your way across the Shivering Isles to Bliss. Enter the palace andspeak to Sheogorathto complete “Through the Fringe of Madness.”
