Seeking your Rootsmight be one of the most complex and long quests inThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.It consists of gathering dozens of Nirnroot plants. This special Alchemy ingredient has become a symbol of theElder Scrolls Gamessince it first appeared in the original Oblivion game.
Now, inOblivion Remastered,players will have a chance to gather these plants to complete a special quest and earn a powerful Elixir in return. But first things first: How do players trigger this quest, and how do they find the right path to solve the mystery of the Nirnroot?
How To Start Seeking Your Roots In Oblivion Remastered
Once players end the tutorial, they will be able to roam freely around Cyrodiil, andas they approach Lake Rumare, they might heara strange hummingthatgrows in intensityas they approach the body of water. If players track this noise down, they will probably stumble upon aNirnroot, a very special plant, with some of the most curious properties in Tamriel.
Once players pick their first Nirnroot, a new quest will pop up in their interface, calledSeeking your Roots, which will start with them trying to ask around until they find a clue about this particular plant. So, players need totalk to NPCs related to Alchemyand Spellcraft to receive a clue on the whereabouts of someone who is researching the Nirnroot and its properties.
If players want to save the whole process of investigating by themselves, they should go toSinderioninSkingrad. He is in the basement of the West Weald Inn, and if players show him the Nirnroot, he will be delighted to share his knowledge with them, on the condition that they help him research the plant and a mysterious decoction known as theElixir of Exploration.
But for that, players will need to gather10 samples of Nirnrootwhich they will need to collect from locations near bodies of water. Sinderion will provide a possible location to help players start gathering the required ingredients: Shadeleaf Copse, a small pond near Skingrad which hosts 3 sprouts of Nirnroot. In the next section, they will find some useful advice and great locations to get the required roots and the next steps for the quest.
Where To Get Nirnroot In Oblivion Remastered
There are a total of 303 Nirnroot plants scattered across Cyrodiil, and since these do not respawn, collecting the required 100 plants to complete Sinderion’s request might sound like an impossible task. But don’t worry, there’s actually a great place to start gathering them: Lake Rumare.
The lake surrounding the Imperial City hosts nearly one-third of the plants required for completing this quest. Be itnear the bridge structures, Ayleid ruins, and in the islets that cover the entire surface of the lake, players will be able to find dozens of Nirnroots growing. They always grow separated from each other, and their characteristic humming will be the best clue to let players know they’re close to a sprout.
Simply wade around the shores of the Lake and circle around to find them. And when players cannot find any more of these plants, they should switch locations to rivers, lakes, and any body of water they can locate near them. Nirnroot grows almost exclusively near water (or inside caves that contain bodies of water), and they are often close to particular landmarks like rocks, ruins, statues, shrines, and such. They never grow directly in the open, except in some rare cases.
Once players have gathered 10 Nirnroot plants, they can go back to Sinderion, and he will grant them aWeak Elixir of Exploration, encouraging them to find 20 plants next. The next step will require 30 plants, and the final step 40. To help players pinpoint more plants to complete this quest with ease, here’s a list of spots where they will be able to find Nirnroot:
It is important to mention that once players have delivered each batch of samples, Sinderion will make them wait 24 Hours before granting them the Elixir sample, and a request for another batch. And after delivering the fourth and final batch, players will receive the Greater Elixir of Exploration, which will grant them the following effects: Night Eye, Fortify Health 20, Fortify Fatigue 20, Fortify Blade 10, Fortify Blunt 10, Fortify Destruction 10, Fortify Restoration 10, Fortify Security 10, Fortify Sneak 10.
After completing the 100 samples, Sinderion will keep purchasing Nirnroot from players in batches of 10 for 250 Gold. And just so players know:There’s no achievement/trophyattached to finding all Nirnroot plants in the game.
