Summary

Lune is a very versatile character who works in pretty much any party throughout the game. She has some of the best build variety out of everyone, having plenty of supportive skills that can turn her from a burst mage into a powerful healer, but also having enough damage in her kit to carry fights on her own. She is a character who really thrives on careful skill selection and goodPicto choices, to transform the elemental caster into an unstoppable force that rarely struggles against any enemies in a playthrough.

But when looking at her skills as a whole, there are a few that stick out as being on the weaker side of things or struggle to provide the same level of consistency that the rest of her kit brings. For the most part, Lune has some of the most well-rounded skills in the game, all of which are usable and can work from start to finish. With that being said, some struggle to compete with others in terms of raw power, and some can even be detrimental to the player if used in the wrong way.

4Hell

High Reward For An Even Higher Cost

Hell is a skill that says it all on the tin. An utterly insane spell that unleashes wave after wave of fire at every enemy on the screen, unless, of course, the player fails the attack. While the damage is sizable and can be a pretty effective way of taking out multiple enemies at once, a lot of bosses present a single foe to take down, which makes having a downside attached to a high-cost AoE feel all the more punishing.

With an AP cost of nine, there really is no margin for error when it comes to saving up those valuable points. On top of the AP cost, players need to think about which Stains they need, all of which are different and specific, meaning that several different skills will need to be cast beforehand to fully unlock the skill’s power. By then, either all the foes will have fallen, or the player would have been better off attacking with a different skill and not risking lighting poor Lune alight, which can often spell the end for the player and their success in a fight.

3Earth Rising

AoE Damage That Rarely Gets The Job Done

Earth Rising is a skill that can be quite good against the right type of enemy, specifically those who are weak to Earth. Yet even when there are several enemies in the fight that all share that weakness, the actual damage output from this skill leaves a lot to be desired, even when buffed by the Lightning Stain. In terms of AoE spells, this one falls pretty low on the list, and many other skills, both in Lune’s kit and other party members, do a much better job at dealing significant area damage all at once and focus on some better elements that are more widely useful.

The cost being only three AP can be nice, as it means players can cast it pretty regularly, even if they aren’t the best at parrying. But normally, low AP costs are reserved for utility spells that, specifically for Lune, give her Stains that she can then use for larger, more powerful spells the following turn. In this case, not only does the skill only give one Stain, but it can also consume one at the same time, ending in either a single Stain positive or breaking even, which can be pretty bad when trying to build up for the more important skills.

2Fire Rage

Requires An Unholy Level Of Perfection

Fire Rage falls into a similar category as Hell, in that both of them arefire-based attacks, both of them are AoE, and both of them come with a downside that negatively affects Lune. In this case, rather than damage, it’s a self-stun that can quickly change the outcome of a fight from in the player’s favor to an instant loss. If Lune is either the primary damage dealer or the main healer in the party, having her stunned for even a single turn can be enough time for the enemy to take her down and for the win to turn into defeat.

The damage is pretty good, and when combined with the Stain consumption, there are few AoE spells that can actually compare to the damage output once it has had time to scale up. But the downside is way too big a risk for the player, unless, of course, they are a parrying God. When entering a fight against an unknown foe, it is best to avoid using this skill as their attacks will quickly stun Lune in no time, and even when players are more comfortable, the chance of failure remains.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Lightning dance

1Lightning Dance

Expensive And Highly Crit Reliant

Lightning Dance is a prettydevastating skillin Lune’s arsenal that can tear through certain enemies when they have enough Luck to make the critical hits far more consistent. The big problem is the cost. At eight AP, it is a sizable investment for the player to make, and it is only worth casting with the full set of Stains as well, which makes the spell a pretty good finisher after enemies have been peppered a bit, but it often misses on the crits or isn’t worth waiting for.

With the right build and set of Pictos, the dance can be a pretty effective way of dealing with individual targets that are giving the player a hard time. At the same time, in many cases, they will be better off with some more supportive skills that actually help the rest of the team, or focusing on more consistent skills that don’t require such a heavy investment that is often not needed.
