Summary
There are two distinct kinds of players coming toOblivion Remastered. There are returning fans of the original Bethesda RPG, and there are new players that are experiencing the game for the first time in its remastered form. Fortunately, both sets of players seem to have received the game well, with veterans appreciating the detailed new look, and new players appreciating the fresh and quirky tone of the game compared to modern RPGs.
Thegameplay systems inOblivion Remasteredremain mostly unaltered, with some very minor changes to the leveling system being the most significant. That means the remaster retains all the highs and lows of the original game. Weapons, too, remain mostly unchanged, meaning that a useless weapon inOblivionis still a useless weapon inOblivion Remastered. For players who want to avoid these weapons, or maybe seek them out for a challenge run, these are the worst weapons in the remaster.
7Wabbajack
Random Chance
The Wabbajack is a fun staff to use, but ultimately not very practical. ThisDaedric Artifactis given to the player as a reward for completing Sheogorath’s Shrine quest. The staff can transform any creature it targets into another random creature. There are several creatures that Wabbajack can transform a target into, from Daedroth to Sheep, and any of the nine options has an equal chance to spawn.
So, players can potentially use the staff to turn a powerful creature into a weak one, but it won’t always work out that way. The staff only has 10 uses before needing to be recharged, and it reverts creatures to full health when they untransform if they’re not killed while transformed. That means it really isn’t very useful, even if it is fun to experiment with.
6Sanguine Rose
Sketchy Summoning
Sanguine Rose is another Daedric Artifact that really isn’t as useful as its grand title makes it sound. This staff comes from the quest at Sanguine’s Shrine, and players need to be level 8 to start the quest. Yet, this might be one to avoid, unless players want to use the Sanguine Rose as theDaedric Artifact they need to destroy for the game’s main questline, because the staff’s effect can be as harmful as it is helpful.
The staff summons a random daedra for 20 seconds when cast, but the daedra may choose to fight for the player or on the side of the enemy. Furthermore, the staff can summon daedra from Scamps up to Xivilai at random, so players could end up with a useless helper, a powerful foe, or anything in between. While afree summonsounds like a tempting idea, the unpredictability of Sanguine Rose’s effect makes it much less useful.
5Rugdumph’s Sword
Noble Nonsense
Lord Rugdumph’s enchanted sword seems to be as much of a joke item as Lord Rugdumph is a joke character. The sword’s enchantment isn’t great. Absorbing speechcraft is wholly useless, but silence can be a useful effect, though 5 seconds isn’t much time to make use of it. It’s the base stats of the sword that are lacking.
It’s a two-handed weapon that only has the reach of a one-handed longsword, and the same base damage as a silver-tier longsword. That means it’s easily outclassed by almost any othertwo-handed blade. If players want this sword anyway, they can get the related quest from Burz Gro-Khash in the Cheydinhal fighter’s guild.
4Truncheon Of Submission
Endless Beating
The Truncheon of Submission is a weapon purely for sadists. The enchantment on this weapon means that players can beat on an opponent as much as they want without killing them, as it will heal them on hit while it has a charge. The Truncheon also damages opponents' stamina, knocking them down when it reaches zero. It’s amusing, but functionally, this weapon is pointless; it’s more thematic, or something for players to just mess around with.
Technically, once it’s run out of charges, it will damage and kill opponents, but at that point, players may as well be usingany other blunt weapon. While it seems like this would be the cursed, enchanted weapon of a mad god, it’s actually available for purchase at Morvayn’s Peacemakers in Anvil.
3Langourwine Blade
Deliberately Non-Lethal
The Langourwine Blade is given to the player to fulfill aspecific quest for the Dark Brotherhood, and the poison it’s coated in is single-use. That means, after the mission, it’s just a mundane dagger with a very low damage value, even though players get to retain it. Strangely, the blade does even less damage than a standard iron dagger, making it one of the most useless weapons in the game.
2Rusty Iron Weapons
Starting Gear
Players can probably figure this out on their own, but there’s no denying that the rusty iron weapons of all categories, found during the tutorial as players escape the sewers, are some of the worst weapons of their various types.
They have less durability than even their basic iron counterparts found in the main game, and players should be looking to replace them as soon as they escape into the open world.
1Replica Weapons
Toy Swords
In the various well-off homes, castles, and guilds around Cyrodiil, players will often see fancy-looking weapons locked inside display cabinets. A lot of these weapons are just replicas of the weapons they appear to be, though, and they’re labeled as such. If players pick up one of these replica weapons, they’ll find that no matter the weapon type, the base damage value is always 1.
That makes them definitely the worst weapons in the game. They can technically be used in combat, but unless players are looking for the ultimate low-damage challenge, it’s best avoided.
